Piney Put-in and other Beta

From Lesley S. : it's a 30 min shuttle. The put in and takeout are roadside. The put in is different from what's in Kirk's book. We used a different put in yesterday. Paved and gravel roads all the way. 27 to Payne Lane in Dayton TN, then stay right to merge onto Back Valley Road, then left onto Evensville Mountain Road, then turn right onto Wash Peffrey Road. Then put on at the bridge. Coordinates 35.623070, -84.969270.  There's an obvious stout hole and undercut at Hungry Jack rapid. It's easy to scout and walk.  There are also trees down here and there, so catch eddies and look before you leap.

From Papabear A. 1) the put in is easy to find

Go past the Gauge and up the hill , turn left afyer the stinging creek falls access. Its a dirt road keep following it to your left always, follow your nose to the 2nd bridge , thats the put in on moccasin creek. which you can google map but you want the dirt road soneone gated the paved road.  After the confluence with piney stay river left or youll miss the totally fun boof. 9 miles of class 3/3+ giggle fun.

From Kerry B. The Wash Peffrey Road took us straight to the putin. No turns after the veer right onto Wash Peffrey Road. The coordinates from my Garmin watch are 35.623070, -84.969270.

From Too Much Kieran:  Piney is not class 3/3+. Just 'cause Mike liked it and didn't swim, doesn't mean it's class 3!    Lesley's put in suggestion guarantees that you can actually get to the top of the Piney run to put on. Sometimes when driving up the dirt road on the RR side, you will get forced to put on at one of the tributaries if it's running to high to drive across. i.e. driving up the RR side involves driving over very low culverts that can be underwater if the tribs are juicy.I don't have a level dialed in for that yet. I suppose it also depends on whether the rain at the top falls on the piney side or the tribs side or both sides.
